Protecting Communities From Ebola Through Prevention
The Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus reminded communities across Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo how quickly a public health threat can cross borders. Although Uganda declared its outbreak over on 26 August 2026, continued transmission in DRC means that preparedness, awareness, and community protection remain essential.
At Good Cause Foundation, we believe prevention begins with informed and empowered communities. Through community engagement, health education, hygiene promotion, and the provision of essential handwashing materials, we are working to help families and vulnerable communities understand how to protect themselves and others.
Our message is simple: prevention saves lives.
We are particularly concerned about communities living near busy cross-border routes, where people regularly move for trade, education, healthcare, and family activities. WHO has emphasized the importance of surveillance, community engagement, contact tracing, and cross-border preparedness in controlling this outbreak.
