Building peace communities in Dominican Republic

We are pleased to continue sharing achievements through the radio program ConstruYOpazRD RADIO. Our goal is to foster a culture of peace, and your support is essential to continue this work.

In recent months, we have worked tirelessly to promote a Culture of Peace aimed at the DR community of listeners on Radio Luz 93.7 FM. During this time, we have addressed a variety of essential topics that have deeply resonated with our audience. These topics include:

• Kindness: We explored how acts of kindness can transform communities and foster a more harmonious environment.
• Forgiveness: We discussed the importance of forgiveness in reconciliation and in building stronger relationships.
• Honesty: We analyzed how honesty is fundamental to trust and mutual understanding.
• Gratitude: We shared stories about the power of gratitude to improve personal and community well-being.
• Dignity: We highlighted the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect, promoting equality and justice.
• Culture of Peace vs. Culture of Violence: We contrasted the characteristics of a culture of peace with those of a culture of violence, promoting the former as the way forward.
• Organizational Culture of Peace: We addressed how organizations can integrate principles of peace into their daily operations.

Our campaign #ConstruYOpazRD: Share Your Good Practice! has gained momentum, encouraging citizens to spread and replicate good practices in peacebuilding. We use media and social networks to expand knowledge and motivate citizen engagement in all areas of daily action.

What is a Good Practice?

• Legitimacy: Responds to a local need and is appropriate to the context.
• Participation: Involves the community, generating a sense of belonging.
• Effectiveness: Produces tangible and transformative results.
• Replicability: Can be reproduced in similar contexts.
• Sustainability: Is technically viable and produces lasting effects.

Peacebuilding is a collective effort. We invite civil society, academia, the private sector, and public institutions to join and strengthen their participation in this noble cause. Every small action counts towards creating a more dignified and peaceful world.
