This project promotes an education process of actions as best practices for building a culture of peace in Dominican Republic providing communication and education resources in order to contribute to social change in a positive way and facilitate the establishment of lasting peace and support preventing violence. The initiative will impact more than 4,000 youth and adults from different social strata, with gender equality and territorial representation.
The Dominican Republic is within the top five countries in Latin America that exhibit a higher incidence of violence. The Dominican Republic is in the first places in feminicide rates in Latin America (gender violence increased by 42% in 2018). Also, school violence is a serious problem in the country (one in four students has suffered violence).
The project contribute to the knowledge and dissemination of initiatives and actions that are identified as good practices for the construction of a culture of peace in Dominican Republic communities through communication and education resources, as well as participatory processes that promote education in values and attitudes, dialogue and conflict resolution. It proposes to prioritize prevention, especially in schools, in order to reduce violence and erradicate inequality between men and women
The project will educate at least 4,000 young people and adults to achieve behavioral changes that will resolve conflicts peacefully, prevent violence and contribute to creating communities of peace in the Dominican Republic. It is about developing courses, seminars, conferences oriented to the creation of a Culture of Peace, as well as production of didactic materials.
