With your generous support, the Centre for Social Research launched its program to support education for 42 girls, between the ages of 6-12.   The event was held on India’s National Girl Child Day at CSR’s main office.

These wonderful girls spent the morning and afternoon with us, participating in poetry competitions, games, and generally having a fun Sunday.

As part of a poetry competition, one girl recited a poem about how girls are taught since childhood that they don’t belong to the marital home and when they are married they are again told that she doesn't belong to the family of in-laws. Her poem was a touching reflection of how many negative messages girls receive about their value.   With your support we are working to change this.

All participants of the day were given initial school supplies, comprising of: School Bag, Geometry Box, and Pencil Box.

The Poetry Competition had 3 Winners, who received colouring books, and colouring sets as prizes.

Certificates were also handed out for participation in Poetry Competition.

Everybody had lunch together, all the girls and their parents, along with CSR trainers and staff, celebrating National Girl Child Day, and all the women and daughters who joined us for the event.

Our Director, Dr. Ranjana Kumari, had some words of wisdom and encouragement for all the girls and their parents: “We all need to know why we celebrate the Girl Child Day. Our nation has been witnessing a huge drop in the national child sex ratio. People have failed to understand the importance of girls in the society and are killing them, a practice we call as gender biased sex selective abortion. Together we need to curb this practice and join hands to save the girl child. One tool that can immensely help in changing the mindsets is Education. All must come together and ensure that our girls are educated and empowered enough.”

Our focus on education for the girl child was celebrated throughout the event, stressing the importance of education and self-reliance. We wanted to encourage both the girls and their parents to continue their studies, and become independent and ambitious citizens.

This was a successful event by all expectations, and we all had some fun on the upside!

We are grateful for your support and want to share with you that we are on our way to making education accessible to girls in our country, one child at a time, but we believe with your support and our dedication to the cause, we will reach our goal.

Thank you again for your support.

Warm regards,

Valerie
