Critter Camp takes in abused neglected injured animals just like any other rescue, we also take in ones on death row in kill facilities- but UNLIKE other rescues we do NOT hold these animals hostage- we never post pics of animals & say we'll save them only if you donate, we don't stop to take horror pics of ones we saved using them to extort donations- we HELP THEM immediately! (We have a few such pics if someone is taking them while another is getting the needed treatment ready) We read over and over that people do not like those tactics- they hate the graphic pics and the promise of death to the animal, and yet they bring in the $ needed to care for those rescues AND they are Shared. One pic of a cat in a kill shelter 'needing $ to be pulled' brings in hundreds of dollars, but when we post that we already saved a rabbit from a kill shelter and it needs to be spayed/neutered apparently everyone thinks someone else is donating because we didn't hold it hostage. So our questions are: Should we start doing that? How can we compel you to donate? Even $5 helps! With 300 sanctuary animals here we go through 1000 lbs of supplies (food, bedding, cleaning items) every week at an average cost of $500 EVERY WEEK, plus our other expenses such as insurance & licenses etc.(NO salaries- we are all Volunteer!) Then the new animals' costs- vet checks, spay/neuters, etc. Show us you don't want us to start using extortion & scare tactics- tell us you LIKE the cute pics & success stories!
We welcome newest rescues Mr & Mrs Whiskers- highly aggresive rabbits that bit and scratched their owner repeatedly. They will be spayed and neutered and re assessed for adoptibility.
We also welcome Leroy the red footed tortoise who was found as a stray. He had metabolic bone disease and we are treating him.
Success Stories: All of the 8 baby ratties and the one baby guinea pig have been adopted! And we were slated to take in an elder bunny from a high kill facility but the transporter saw that he was super friendly and loving so he helped find an adoptive home, andf Muffin is now happy & loved!
