Since our last report we have taken in more rescue critters for sanctuary.

Welcome 2 new elder guinea pig ladies Axel & Alice; and elder ratties Malcom & Liam as well as little adorable biter girl Chalotte.

Sadly we lost our final ferret Oliver to his adrenal cancer. He did live a very long and happy life and was comfortable until he peacefully drifted off to the rainbow bridge.

Popeye's (our edler fennec fox) annual vet visit brought good and bad news- good news is his liver disease is being well controlled by his med, bad news is his increased aggression is due to hormonal issues from not being neutered and will only progress. The only treatment is neutering and at his advanced age it is not advisable. Fennecs do not handle anesthesia well when they are healthy and young, let alone when they are elderly and compromised. It is unfortunate he was not neutered when he was young. We understand that some fennec owners are afraid of the anesthesia even with their young foxes, however it is generally much healthier for them to be spayed and neutered early when they are strong and healthy to prevent this kind of issue as they age. If young fennec foxes are kept on a heating pad or under a heat lamp safely while under they are usually fine as hypothermia is the greatest risk for them. So anyway we will keep this little feisty booger comfortable, happy and loved as long as possible!
