The Latest from Critter Camp

Ratties with treats

Since our last report we've had a lot going on!

We had a surprise inspection by the USDA and we passed with flying colors! That's always great! So many small animal rescues and home based rescues are not licensed or inspected, many still operate just fine, but sadly some should have had that oversight. We are proud to be licensed by the USDa and the IL Dept. of Ag, and the Il DNR, and inspected by all of them. This not only ensures the quality of care that the animals recieve but it also helps us learn new ways to improve how we care for the animals.

We made a hard decision to allow our two parrots to move to Burge Bird Rescue. We have worked with Dr. Burge for over a decade and know she runs a quality rescue and clinic. Since the two parrots were only in their 20's and CritterCampMom is 64 the math was not mathing well and we knew we needed to send them on to a more specific rescue where they could recieve more training and hopfully adoptive families. They came a long way while in our care and now they will be able to make the next step in their future. But it is still hard for us to see them go- they have been a part of our lives for quite a while.

Our guinea pigs & rabbits had a spa day where CritterCampMom trimmed 486 tiny toes on some very unhappy little critters. Our rabbits are all human aggressive- all have bitten people bad enough for them to seek medical attention. So needless to say they do not like 'spa days.' But we do what needs to be done as quickly and easily as possible to limit their stress (and our injuries!)

Critter Camp also became a Top Rate Non Profit on the Great Non Profits website for another year. And we earned our Platinum seal of transparency from Candid- the highest award for non profits to earn.

We welcomed elder guinea piggies Toasted Marshamallow and Osito to our boy guinea pig colony.

Critters had various treats such as watermelon for the guinea pigs, mulberry branches for the bunnies and mini pancakes with strawberry slices and whipped cream for the ratties!

We thank all of you for your continued support of the work we do here at Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary. We cannot do it without YOU!
