More New Rescues!

By Beth Randall | Director

Popeye
Popeye

Since our last report almost 4 months ago we've been pretty busy!

Shortly after our precious fennec fox Stevie passed away we were contacted by a family that had to find a home for their beloved elderly fennec fox asap due to changing living arrangements. We had thought that Stevie might have been our last fox but apparently not. So we agreed to take in our 12th fennec fox, Popeye! His momma drove 12 hours to get him here where she knew he'd be well cared for in his old age. He's very healthy and active for an old guy! We're thrilled to be able to give this sweet little guy all the love and care he deserves for as long as he has left.

We created a nice big 8' x 10' aviary for our smaller birds- the cockatiels and dove; and our newest additions elder parakeets Woomy and Soup whose loving family is moving overseas and cannot take them along.

We also took in elder guinea pigs Daisy, Charlotte, Popcorn; rattie Willow & Rosie, and tiny dwarf hamster, Jingle.

We took in two ferrets too:  Daisy who was found as a stray, turns out she got away from her former owner and he agreed he was unable to care for her at this time. We also found out that she had originally been found in a trash can! She's been through an awful lot so she will stay right here in our free range ferret room with her new friends, safe and sound. And Cookie who is elderly and lost her cagemate making her very depressed and lonely. Her family was not in a position to get another ferret so she came here to live out her life as well with her new friends in our ferret area.

And Peppy Hare the rabbit came to us from another shelter where he had attacked several staff, sending some to the ER for stitches! So he was considered unadoptable due to liability issues. He is now happy and safe in our free range rabbit area with his new friends.

CritterCampMom fell and badly sprained her ankle and wrist and still is in a boot for the ankle! Thankfully our few volunteers can help out some and ease the workload!

What a summer! We truly appreciate the support you give us here at Critter Camp! We could not carry out our mission without YOU! Thank you!
