Critter Camp has a Ratastrophe!

By Beth Randall | Director

Ratastrophe!
Ratastrophe!

A few weeks ago Critter Camp had a RATASTROPHE!

We got a call form a couple who said they had saved a young domestic rat that was loose outside from a dog's jaws. They took it all over the neighborhood & no one claimed it. So they read up on care & found they shoudl get it a friend. Unfortunately they ahd mis-sexed it and got the opposite sex buddy. They said there was alitter and they didnt get the boys out soon enough and they had another litter. Then another. They were beyond overwhelmed and asked us to take their "20 or so" ratties because no other resuce would take them, even though we already ahve 40+ rats we said ok.

Well people have problems counting apprently because there were a grand total of 69 ratties in the batch! All are safe & sound & we ahve adopted out 2 so far, several are still not weaned yet. So we've been scrambling for adopters and doantiosn to cover their immense food needs!

In the meantime we took in a pregnant mousie from akill shelter, who has had her 12 babies, and abandoned pregnant guinea pig who hjad her 3 babies too!

On a sad note we lost one of our precious fennec foxes to kindey failure- Mister Quiggly is greatly missed. We hand fed him for 3 weeks, gave him round the clock care, but sadly his body was done.

Thank you again for all your support!!!
