Religious persecution forced Jana and Nara's* family to flee their home country of Pakistan. Leaving behind family, friends, and reputable jobs, their parents moved to seek asylum in Bangkok. While grateful to be safe, their new life proved far from easy.
With 8,000 refugees in Bangkok, adults must follow strict laws and often can't work legally due to visa restrictions. Families live in isolation and fear. Their refugee status and lack of reliable income hinder parents from enrolling their kids in school, leaving children at risk of exploitation and long-term poverty.
Creative Life Foundation (CLF) strives for a future where every child has the freedom to attend school.
Jana and Nara, both elementary-aged, were being educated by their mother in the family's one-room apartment. That all changed when staff from the CLF Refugee Support Program knocked on their door and offered support.
The sisters received scholarships from CLF to attend an international school, and a CLF mentor, Sehar, regularly visited with the family to ensure their basic needs were met. The sisters blossomed at school, consistently earning excellent grades. Their parents witnessed a dramatic boost in the girls' confidence as they enjoyed science, art, dance, and developed friendships.
Jana and Nara's family eventually immigrated to Canada, where they now enjoy a home, legal status, access to education, religious freedom, medical care, and safety. They are so grateful for the investment Creative Life Foundation made in them during a season of isolation and displacement.\
With their newfound confidence, Jana and Nara are now equipped to handle challenges in a new environment and continue laying the base for successful futures.
