By Butoyi Bellyne | Critical Relief Needs in DRC
The Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to face a severe humanitarian emergency, with millions of people affected by conflict, displacement, and food insecurity. Recent reports show that around 14.9 million people in the country require humanitarian assistance, while over 26 million people are experiencing crisis-level hunger or worse .
Your project is operating in a context where needs are increasing due to ongoing violence in eastern provinces such as North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri, which continues to force large-scale displacement and disrupt access to food, healthcare, and shelter.
The project is aligned with urgent priorities in the region, including:
Emergency food assistance to prevent acute hunger
Access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) support
Shelter and basic household supplies for displaced families
Protection and support for vulnerable groups (especially women and children)
These interventions are critical because many displacement sites have been destroyed or overcrowded, leaving families without stable access to basic services.
Humanitarian partners in DRC report that:
Aid access remains limited in conflict zones
Funding gaps continue to slow down delivery of assistance
Many programs are shifting toward cash-based and rapid-response aid to reach affected families more quickly .
