Like everywhere, 2020/2021 has been very challenging in Moshi, Tanzania. However, it's because of the generosity of our donors that we have been able to quickly adjust our plans and continue supporting our communities and local teams through expanding our activities and setting up COVID-19 relief projects. This fund will allow our gender equality, health and empowerment programs in Moshi to restart when health recommendations, government regulations, and community situations allow us to do us.
For a lot of the already vulnerable communities we work with, there is a lack of awareness around how contagious and serious the COVID-19 virus is, and everyone's susceptibility to it. A lot of lost jobs is leading to an increase in food insecurity, and little access to healthcare is concerning for many. At a time when support is needed most, a lot of our activities have had to be put on hold. Funding has decreased and a lot of program momentum has been lost.
We have been making strides to strengthen our teams to provide communities with more impactful programs and support opportunities, and as COVID-19 restrictions slowly lift we will be re-starting and re-connecting with the projects and people we value but the fight is long from over. With the money raised through this fund, we will be able to restart our programs in Moshi and keep our commitment to educate, enrich and empower individual and communities.
During a time that has impacted the wellbeing and livelihoods of so many, knowing that the programs they were a part of will continue, will provide hope, positivity, and a future to look forward to. We don't want to walk away from all that has been accomplished since 2008. We can prove that impact can be made no matter how big the challenge - but we need your help. Let's keep going, let's keep making impact in Moshi.
