Dear friends and partners,
We are pleased to share an update on the community center restoration project in Shevchenkove, Mykolaiv Oblast.
Challenge
The Shevchenkove community has been affected by hostilities since 2022, and the local Palace of Culture — once the main hub for education and social life — remains in poor condition. Without a safe and accessible space, residents face isolation, reduced learning opportunities, and weakened social cohesion. The central village currently lacks a functioning space for gatherings, services, and activities for its approximately 3,000 residents.
What is happening now
In the course of implementing the project, the community found a new partner — the international humanitarian organization People in Need, which supported the creation of a youth space on the first floor of the Shevchenkove Palace of Culture. Renovation work has already begun.
In light of this, the initiative group we work with has asked us to update the campaign concept. Instead of arranging a multifunctional space for career guidance and adult and children's education on the first floor, the campaign will now focus on creating a new space on the second floor of the Palace of Culture.
A space with a broader purpose
The new space will become a place for the physical and psycho-emotional recovery of community residents, including youth, adults, and veterans. It will host physical activities and educational events that strengthen mental health, physical resilience, and social interaction.
With two complementary spaces located in the same building, the Shevchenkove Palace of Culture will become a modern hub for leisure, development, recovery, and social cohesion, where representatives of different generations can meet, learn, communicate, and spend time together.
Why this project matters
Shevchenkove is a village of approximately 3,000 residents, including children, youth, adults, and veterans who need a safe space for recovery and development. The restored center will serve as a sustainable hub for community life, enabling residents to organize activities, support one another, and contribute to the recovery and development of the community.
Fundraising progress
So far, $2 has been raised toward the overall goal of $6,000, with support from 4 donors. We continue raising funds for the equipment and materials needed to furnish the second-floor space.
What comes next
We continue our collaboration with the initiative group and partners, are following the progress of the renovation work on the first floor, and are preparing to furnish the second-floor space as soon as sufficient funds are raised. The center's opening will be an important moment of renewal for the whole community.
Thank you for believing in this project. Your support brings us closer to creating a warm, safe, and united space for the residents of Shevchenkove.
With gratitude, Legal Development Network team
