Dear Supporters,
Rare diseases are far more than complex medical diagnoses—they profoundly shape childhood, family relationships, education, careers, identity, and hope.
Over the past three months, we have taken a major step forward in expanding how these vital stories and scientific insights are shared: we have begun adapting our rich library of illustrated stories into video format and officially launched our dedicated YouTube series!
Key Highlights of the Last 3 Months:
1. Launching the "Born to Challenge" () YouTube Series
Building on Wonder Sir’s decade-long archive of 100+ original rare disease explainers, we have launched a dedicated video series on YouTube to bring selected patient journeys to life.
6 Videos Published: We have already adapted and uploaded the first 6 video episodes, featuring clinician-reviewed and patient-co-created narratives.
Global Accessibility: While preserving the authentic voice in original Chinese, every video includes English titles, descriptions, and subtitles, allowing international viewers, researchers, and global patient advocates to connect with these lived experiences.
Regular Release Cadence: We are committed to a continuous release schedule, rolling out new visual adaptations approximately every three weeks.
2. Multi-Format Innovation: Beyond Static Comics
Transitioning from static comics to dynamic video allows us to:
Deepen Emotional Connection: Video brings nuances of patient lived experiences to life, breaking emotional barriers for the general public and future clinicians.
Expand Accessibility: Visual storytelling with audio and subtitles caters to diverse audiences, including families who prefer audio-visual learning over dense text.
Amplify Global Advocacy: These videos serve as an open educational resource that international rare disease communities can reference and share.
How Your Support Fuels This Evolution
Adapting rigorous medical comics into high-quality video content requires meticulous script adaptation, pacing, visual rendering, and accurate bilingual translation.
Your contributions on GlobalGiving make this multimedia evolution possible. By supporting our work, you are helping us:
Sustain regular video adaptations for rare conditions that lack mainstream commercial funding.
Bridge language barriers with professional English subtitles, connecting grassroots Chinese rare disease stories to the global stage.
Equip frontline doctors, medical students, and families with engaging, easy-to-digest educational tools.
