Dear Kind Supporter,
The team of 2400 Green Rhinos is going strong! They are in the National Capital Region (NCR), Kolkata, Siliguri and Sundarbans.
Green Rhinos in the Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve, have created tree plantation projects, raised over 2000 saplings and have planted over 20,000 trees. They are in the process of maintaining these saplings to prevent soil erosion and create habitats for wildlife.
The only girls’ school in Kultali Community Development Block, Debipur Karunamoyee Balika Bidyayatan in the Sundarbans started with a garbage cleaning drive in 2012 after which garbage pits were installed in their school. Since then they are also doing composting of food waste.
Green Rhinos of Sri Sri Academy School in Kolkata, conducted a campaign to curb sound pollution outside their school. In their opinion the honking of car horns has reduced as a result of their campaign.
Currently Green Rhinos in Kolkata schools have begun to study and record local wildlife, including populations of butterflies, migratory birds and trees. They are planning to clean up a local water body and have begun setting up sustainable waste management solutions in their schools.
In Siliguri, Green Rhinos are working to make their schools water and energy efficient and are setting up waste management systems within the school premises.
The Green Rhinos Program aims not only to secure a green future for the world, it also aims to create a generation of environmentally conscious leaders. If these young people are an indication of the future, it looks bright.
Please consider helping us reach more schools with this program!
Thank you for the support!
