We have great news! Resiliency Centers are almost ready. While the final installations of the kitchen equipment are being carried out, the Resiliency Centers are still active with their programming. We are not going to stop. The Resiliency Centers in the Moises school became a space for participatory democracy and has been used by more residents. A community assembly was held with a high participation of residents, who elected their new Community Board. This is an example of the community organization processes promoted in the G-8. In addition, we held residents' meetings where we discussed the importance of the Community Land Trust as a tool to ensure the permanence of the communities and housing as a right.
Likewise, as a project we promote the integration of young people with adults. We believe in generational change as an important aspect to avoid the displacement of vulnerable communities. Therefore, at the Santiago school Resiliency Center we had a group of young volunteer residents who, together with the Community Board where the center is located, cleaned up and prepared the space. They were able to share experiences and this reflects what it is to be a community. Also, the children of the community continue to receive education through the after-school program. This center continues to be a space that promotes education.
These activities give value to the Resiliency Centers and together with the community kitchens make it an integral center that responds to the needs of the communities. We need to have these spaces equipped and completed. Having community kitchens equipped as part of the Resiliency Centers helps us build communities that are safe and ready to face unexpected atmospheric events. Even more so when Puerto Rico has a fragile electric power system and blackouts have increased considerably. We are close to reaching the goal, but with your support, and through partnerships with volunteers and other allies, we can improve the project.
