Active Community - More Near the Goal

Resiliency Centers has made steady progress in reaching this objective.  We are more and more near the final goal to have safe spaces. As we continue the rehabilitation work like to install the solar energy system and kitchen equipment, the community remains active with programming in Resiliency Centers. At the Moises school, community workshops have been carried out on issues of critical awareness and training to promote sustainable Community Boards. Also, AmeriCorps States volunteers were painting some areas. Likewise, the Santiago school continues to be a meeting place for the Community Board to hold its meetings, as well as workshops for micro-entrepreneurs and residents. In addition, the boys and girls were taking their classes for the academic lag in this place as part of the after-school program. They also received a workshop of screen printing. For us it is important to continue occupying the spaces and keep the residents active that allows us to have an empowered community.

Having community kitchens equipped as part of the Resiliency Centers helps us build communities that are safe and ready to face unexpected atmospheric events. As we approach the peak season for atmospheric events, these spaces need to be equipped and resilient. After Hurricane Maria hit us, the electrical energy system in Puerto Rico continues to be fragile, so it is necessary to have a solar energy system that offers residents a sense of security and is a safe space. We are close to reaching the goal, but with your support, and through partnerships with volunteers and other allies, we can improve the project.
