Dear Donor,
On 16 and 17 March 2013, on the remote islands of K-Plot and Maipith in the Sundarbans, 300 new Green Rhinos were initiated into the Program.
These Green Rhinos are poor, meritorious students who live on these islands where there is no electricity. They were provided solar lamps from ASED's Solar Lamps Project, http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/solar-lamps-for-students-in-sundarbans-india/. They were inducted into the Green Rhinos Program with a seminar on the nature of the Sundarbans and how they can protect it. Green Rhinos, who have been conducting projects since 2012, shared their experiences.
The events created an excitement among the village community and the parents of the students, school teachers and local people came to watch. They were urged to help the Green Rhinos make their village a greener and cleaner place to live.
The leadership training for the new batch of Green Rhinos will be held on 4 April 2013.
The movement is gaining momentum!
Many thanks for your support.
Diti
