Dear Donor,
We are very excited to let you know that we launched the Green Rhinos Program on the remote islands of K-Plot and Maipith in the Sundarbans on 27 and 28 April 2012!!
We launched the Program with the 300 students who were the recipients of solar lamps, which is another project on GlobalGiving http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/solar-lamps-for-students-in-sundarbans-india/. These students, from Grades 7 to 12 from eight local schools, were initiated into the Green Rhinos Program, with a power-point presentation/ talk on nature in the Sundarbans, the people and their relationship with nature, the environmental issues facing this fragile ecosystem and how students can protect the Sundarbans.
ASED will work with these students for the next eight months so that they can experience their ability to make a contribution to the conservation of this fragile ecosystem, here and now.
We will conduct leadership training for 5 students and mentoring training for 2 teachers from each of these schools on May 22, 2012.
Thank you for your support to make this possible!
Diti Mookherjee
