Crafting Careers: Updates from the Fall semester

By Alice Roques | Fundraising and Grants Manager

In October 2024, we kick started a new cycle of the Crafting Careers program, which ended in December 2024 on a high! Students gave great feedback, including high satisfaction with the classes’ content and level of knowledge. Students were happy to have the opportunity and time to practice their tailoring skills on professional tools and to receive (bespoke!) support from the teacher.

This Crafting Careers program gave students ideas: one student opened their own e-shop to sell their creations, while others have found employment - on their own, and sometimes through ANKAA’s connections in the tailoring industry. One student will also begin their post-Crafting Career internship this Winter, at ANKAA’s sewing studio.

A new cycle of Crafting Careers has started this January, with five students currently enrolled. This time, we have extended the duration of the Crafting Careers program from 8 to 28 weeks. This new cycle, which began this January, will therefore run until July 2025 and enable graduating students to know how to go through the manufacturing process in a team and conduct a 80-hour internship upon program completion, in ANKAA’s ethical manufacturing lab.

We look forward to seeing how this longer cycle unfolds!
