Challenge

In Greece, refugees, migrants and asylum-seekers face the issue of high unemployment, affecting the entire population. The unemployment rates in Greece remain high compared to other EU Member States. There is a critical need for opportunities that not only address economic well-being but also foster a sense of independence and stability in their new surroundings. There are many obstacles, including a lack of social networks, bureaucratic hurdles, language barriers, and a need for skills training.

Solution

Crafting Careers addresses the pressing challenge of unemployment among refugees, migrants, asylum-seekers, and job seekers in Athens. Our 8-week sewing program equips participants with practical skills in fashion production, crucial for entering the workforce. Successful graduates of the program will an 80-hour paid internship within ANKAA's ethical manufacturing lab. This not only enhances their skill set but gives them a practical professional work and learning experience.

Long-Term Impact

Access to the labor market is the means of our students to regain autonomy and rebuild their lives in dignity and security. With practical skills acquired from the program, students are equipped to confidently enter the labor market. The program offers holistic support, including employability sessions and language training, enhancing immediate employability. Furthermore, the program facilitates participants in gaining independence and stability during their inclusion process into Greek society.
