To deliver quality arts +craft instruction and kits to children in need. San Diego Craft Collective designs, prepares, delivers, + provides instruction for craft kits to children in hospital rooms, homeless shelters, and classrooms. The craft kits contain quality, eco-conscious materials, and include instruction from amazing teachers. This community arts program provides essential emotional, mental, + kinesthetic development for children with little to no access to craft opportunities.
Despite overwhelming evidence linking arts education to higher graduation rates, improved language skills, inventiveness, and critical thinking, craft for many children is nonexistent. With public school budgets slashed, and extracurricular activities being priced out for these communities, these children are left to fall further behind. This leaves them devoid of a creative outlet, handicaps their skills, and creates problems in other areas of learning, self confidence, + economic opportunities
Craft2Gether brought craft kits to more than 350 under-resourced children in San Diego last summer + laid the foundation for ongoing donations of kits. It provides much-needed quality, craft education for children who either cannot afford it, or don't have access to craft classes. Whether they are confined to their homes, hospital room, or don't have a home, Craft2Gether will make sure these children have access to education that boosts confidence and creativity through the art of craft
Our vision is to inspire change, create a connection, and spark a movement that fosters longterm, equal access to craft for all children in the community. We are working to partner with the local health care organizations, shelters, and schools to provide quality craft education models that are easily repeated and exist for years to come. Looking to the future, we aim to make positive change in the lives of under-resourced children and enable them to build hand skills and a future through craft.
