The risk of COVID on the vulnerable families we serve and programs we operate is at the highest it has been since the onset of the pandemic. Ensuring that both our kids and the teams who treat them are equipped with the PPE and disinfectants needed to do so safely is critical to preventing infection. As our partners on the ground remain determined to safely provide treatment to every CoolKid in need, we're ensuring they can do so responsibly and without fear of compromising their health.
As the U.S. and many developed countries are beginning to reopen, many developing countries are shutting down again amidst a devastating resurgence of COVID. The WHO shared that there have been more global cases reported in the last 2 weeks of April 2021 than in the first 6 months of the pandemic. Our programs and the vulnerable children and families they serve are at an especially high risk because of their limited access to vaccines, healthcare, PPE, and crowded living conditions.
We launched our COVID Emergency Fund to provide our programs with the sanitizing products and PPE needed to fight COVID while restoring mobility to our kids. Since 2020, we have provided -26,438 disposable face masks -12 contactless thermometers -4,621 liters of sanitizer -4,450 bottles of disinfectant -1,542 reusable face masks -13,106 pairs of gloves Equipping our kids, & the professionals who treat them with PPE is critical to ensuring kids do not choose between their mobility & health.
We equipped our partners with the PPE and supplies needed to continue operating safely at the onset of the pandemic in 2020. As a result we treated 926 kids last year. We are committed to providing free care to our kids through the age of 21, ensuring they maintain their mobility, and all the opportunities mobility offers. Mobility is ability to improve self-esteem, engage in the community, access education, secure gainful employment, gain self-sufficiency, and break the cycle of poverty.
