Kenya continues to see a rise in COVID-19 infections and fatalities daily. With children going back to school, it has become urgent to find ways to reduce the spread of the virus, especially for those in marginalized areas. This project will create an Awareness and Safety campaign to teach on preventing the virus and teach Kenyan children, aged 5-12 years. Each child will receive an Awareness and Safety kit which will include an educational book, a box of crayons, a face mask, and a bar of soap.
In Kenya, we have reached over 100,000 cases of COVID-19 infections, which continue to rise every day, including fatalities. We are concerned about the effect this virus will have in Kenya and Africa, especially on children in marginalized areas like those living in informal settlements. Children are now back in school and interacting with each other, making it even more urgent to raise awareness and protect them during this pandemic.
This project will create an awareness campaign to teach on understanding and preventing the coronavirus's spread and teach Kenyan children, especially those in marginalized areas aged between 5 and 12, preventive measures like washing hands, social distancing, and the importance of wearing a face mask. Each child will receive a COVID-19 Awareness and Safety Kit that contains an educational book, a box of crayons, a face mask, and a bar of soap.
World Health Organization advocates prevention as a way to mitigate the spread of the virus. By raising awareness on safety we hope to reduce infections which will result in the saving of lives for Kenyan children and their families especially those in marginalized communities. We also hope that through this awareness and safety campaign parents and guardians will have the tools to have open discussions with their children who may be concerned about what is happening in the world currently.
