This project supports veterans and those leaving the emergency services. Many veterans came out of retirement to help tackle the Covid crisis and joined the 'fight' at the pandemic and disaster 'front-line'. FirstLight Trust provides the tools, resources and therapies to ensure these incredible individuals are supported and able to deal with the ongoing fallout from Covid lockdowns; in particular the emotional, mental and physical fall out from dealing with constant emergencies.
Thousands of emergency workers put their own health at risk to protect the broader community; and this risk has increased with the after effects of Covid and the cost of living crisis. Many experience trauma daily, as well as having to deal with money and housing issues as a result of the cost of living crisis. Money troubles and debt have a serious negative impact upon mental health and general wellbeing.
FirstLight Trust offers financial and emotional support via face to face meetings, telephone/video/calls, Skype and Zoom. Support covers money management, debt, housing, rent, benefits and employment. Having a point of contact, an accessible real and virtual support service at this time will help in maintaining balanced health and a positive mindset. These discussions also allow for general social contact and emotional support and for access to trauma therapy if required.
FirstLight Trust is there to support paramedics, police officers and firefighters who have left or are leaving the emergency services, who were all working on the front line of the Covid-19 crisis. The long-term effects of the lock down are only just being realised and are being compounded by the cost of living crisis. The implications and effects will be long lasting. This project will ensure that the right support is in place for those who need it, whether that is now or in years to come.
