While some parts of the world are seeing vaccine roll-outs, Nepal is currently gripped by a lethal second wave of coronavirus. Hospitals are overwhelmed and there have been reports of oxygen shortages and insufficient hospital beds. There are urgent calls for more beds, medicines, oxygen and Covid tests.
In Nepal, a country of over 30 million people, there are only 1,600 intensive care beds and fewer than 600 ventilators available. As the coronavirus continues to spread, communities in the country facing poverty and injustice are on the frontlines of the crisis. We have seen over 9,000 new cases of coronavirus in just a 24 hour period which is one of the highest recorded totals globally.
With the generous support of people like you, ActionAid is responding immediately. Building on decades of local partnerships, our global response will connect people to Covid tests, food in isolation centers, and PPE. We will also distribute hygiene kits and offer counseling services.
ActionAid's response is community-driven, women-led, and rights-based, which means your donation today invests in change that lasts. Your gift helps us respond to this crisis and support human rights around the world.
