Hope, Care and Community - Thanks to you!

By Katherine de Kretser | Project Leader

Over the past few months, life at Prithipura Communities has continued to be shaped by thousands of small acts of care, kindness and commitment — the everyday work that keeps our homes, school and farms running, even during difficult times.

Thanks to your generosity, 240 disabled children and adults who have little or no family support continue to wake up each day in a place where they are safe, cared for and surrounded by people who know them, value them and help them grow.

A glimpse into daily life

This year has been full of moments that remind us why Prithipura is so special. Those who live with us have celebrated Vesak and the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, learned practical first aid skills, exhibited artwork, explored the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour and gained work experience in local hotels. These experiences help build confidence, spark joy and open up new possibilities.

Your kindness also keeps the practical, everyday rhythm of Prithipura going.

. Every day:

  • 66 carers, teachers, therapists and farmworkers support our residents
  • 450 nappies are changed at the Infants’ Home
  • 320 kg of laundry is washed at the Infants’ Home
  • 350 kg of rice is cooked each week for Cotagala School and Asokapura Farm.
  • 5,000 coconuts are collected every two months at Anandapura Farm
  • 900 kg of rubber is produced each month at Asokapura Farm
  • 40 varieties of fruit, vegetables and spices are grown at Asokapura Farm.

Together, these everyday tasks show the care, dedication and teamwork that keep Prithipura thriving.

Thank you

Many of you support us quietly, generously and without fanfare — and we never take that for granted. Your kindness continues to shape everyday life here, making a real difference in ways felt every single day.

If you’d like to read more stories from this year, we’ve put together a short newsletter with photos, reflections and updates from across our homes, school and farms. You can read it here: https://www.prithipura.org/news

Thank you for standing with us.
