Women Financial Education and capacity building support

Project Overview
Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development continues to make significant progress in empowering women and youths through social and economic strengthening initiatives in Solwezi and Kalumbila Districts of Northwestern Province, Zambia. The program focuses on financial education, mentorship, entrepreneurship support, and capacity building aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable community development.


Over the reporting period, the organization successfully reached more than 1,500 women and youths through various empowerment activities designed to enhance economic independence, leadership skills, and social inclusion.


Key Achievements
Financial Literacy and Economic Empowerment
The project conducted several financial education sessions targeting women groups, young entrepreneurs, and vulnerable households. Participants were trained in:


1. Savings and budgeting
2. Small business management
3. Income diversification
4. Record keeping and financial planning


These trainings have enabled many women to improve household financial management and establish small-scale income-generating activities.
Mentorship and Leadership Development


The mentorship component connected women and youths with experienced community leaders, business mentors, and development practitioners. Through mentorship sessions, participants gained:


- Confidence and self-esteem
- Business and leadership skills
- Guidance on entrepreneurship and career development


Knowledge on women’s rights and participation in community leadership, Many young women reported increased confidence in participating in local decision-making processes and community initiatives.


Capacity Building Initiatives
Capacity-building workshops were organized to strengthen practical and vocational skills among beneficiaries. Areas covered included:


Entrepreneurship development
Cooperative formation and management
Life skills and personal development
Community mobilization and advocacy
The training sessions created opportunities for women to form support networks and savings groups that continue to strengthen economic resilience within their communities.


Community Impact
The Women Social and Economic Strengthening Program has contributed to:


Increased participation of women in economic activities
Improved financial decision-making at household level
Enhanced social support systems among women and youths
Greater awareness of gender equality and women empowerment


Several beneficiaries have started small businesses such as tailoring, poultry keeping, gardening, and trading, helping improve household income and reduce vulnerability.


Challenges Encountered
Despite the positive progress, the project faced several challenges including:


Limited financial resources to meet growing community demand
Transportation difficulties in reaching remote communities
High levels of poverty affecting business sustainability


Limited access to startup capital for women entrepreneurs


The organization continues to engage stakeholders and partners to address these challenges and expand the reach of the program.
Future Plans


Moving forward, Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development aims to:
Expand financial literacy training to more rural communities
Strengthen women-led cooperatives and savings groups


Increase mentorship opportunities for adolescent girls and young women
Support more women with startup skills and business incubation
Enhance partnerships with local authorities and development partners
Appreciation
