How you are helping slow the spread of COVID-19 in Sierra Leone

Elizabeth & Lucy are thankful for masks and soap
Elizabeth & Lucy are thankful for masks and soap

Dear project supporters,

While COVID-19 continues to disrupt our daily lives; we are all struggling to work out a new normal.  Because of this, there are ongoing needs to provide face masks, soap, and hand sanitizers.  It has also brought the need of providing nutritional meals to families who no longer have the ability to provide food for their families due to loss of jobs or income.

Thanks to your support masks and soap have been distributed to students like Elizabeth & Lucy, pictured here.   These girls expressed their gratitude for your support that is keeping them safe.

Families like Yealie, Alfred, Alusine, and Abdul's (pictured below) family received healthy meals.  This family is very grateful for the food they received.

Coronavirus: How fast is it spreading in Africa? - BBC News

The continent passed one million cases on 6 August, but the rate of increase in reported cases recently has slowed.

This is mainly driven by a decline in new cases in South Africa, which accounts for more than half of all cases reported so far on the continent.

From 30 July until 5 August, the total number of cases on the continent rose by 11%, so less than the 16% rise the week before.

It's worth stressing that some parts of the continent have seen relatively few cases, such as some areas of central and East Africa.

The Africa CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) says that five countries account for more than 75% of all the reported cases on the continent.

We greatly appreciate your ongoing support that makes it possible to provide families in need in Freetown with healthy meals, masks, and hand sanitizer/soap.

Thank you for helping to meet this important practical need. We greatly appreciate your continued support in saving lives and stopping the spread of COVID-19 / coronavirus.

Stay healthy, friends,
Amy and the Develop Africa Team
