Things were looking quite good for Thailand. Yes, the country was still being affected by the Covid-crisis, but thankfully there were no cases. Until the end of December. Suddenly, the number of cases started rising and lockdown restrictions are being imposed. And so many people lose their jobs again.
For the families that Siam-Care works with, 2020 has been a tough year. Thankfully, the vaccine has been approved and hopefully things will go back to normal soon. For now, many people are still without a job. Near our office in Phang Nga (south of Thailand) many of our beneficiaries used to work in hotel as cleaners. Most of them have lost their jobs, as hotels have been closed for quite a while now. Unfortunately, there is hardly any government support. People are fighting to survive without an income, which is very challenging.
How have we helped?
We have been handing out more food packages, so that people in the most dire situations, don't go hungry. We have given rice, eggs, oil and some other basic supplies, so that at least people have something to eat. We also keep on visiting people at home, and check on their mental situation as well. We often see people in tough situations either start drinking too much, or they become depressed with what is going on right now. Our social workers counsel them and do their very best to keep them on the right path.
Thank you
Thank you for your support! Without your help, we couldn't help a single person. We very well realize that and are very thankful for your help.
