Coral conservation cannot succeed without education, a central objective of the Center for Marine Innovation. Through our dedicated education program, we engage students from private and public schools, providing hands-on experience and practical knowledge about marine ecosystems and coral restoration initiatives. In this current year, 422 children have been educated about these ecosystems. They have also participated in educational rallies, directly experiencing the importance of marine conservation in a fun and engaging way. Students have observed the coral microfragmentation process, actively participated in gluing corals, enjoyed snorkeling trips to underwater coral nurseries, and contributed by planting red mangroves along the shoreline.
An outstanding aspect of these activities is the involvement of local fishermen, who have been trained in coral restoration techniques. These fishermen lead demonstrations and actively assist during educational activities, fostering a sense of empowerment, ensuring the transfer of valuable knowledge to younger generations, and strengthening the connection between the community and conservation efforts.
Continuing the legacy of marine conservation is key, and can only occur if we keep motivating kids to learn about these natural resources and protect them.
