Cabeça Legal Project Highlights
In Brazil, public schools play a critical role in supporting young people, yet many lack access to specialized resources to identify and address mental health challenges. As anxiety, depression, and emotional distress become increasingly common among adolescents, schools are often among the first places where signs of suffering emerge—but not always where they can be easily recognized.
The Cabeça Legal Project was created to help address this challenge by combining science, technology, and education. Working in partnership with Brazilian public schools, the initiative develops innovative tools to support the early identification of emotional distress and strengthen prevention and mental health care strategies for adolescents.
At the heart of the project is a scientifically developed digital game designed to engage students in a safe, accessible, and youth-friendly way. Through interactive experiences, students can express themselves more naturally, while educators and researchers gain valuable insights into their emotional well-being.
The importance of this work has gained public recognition through media coverage, including a feature published by TV Vanguarda, Globo’s regional affiliate, which highlighted the growing impact of anxiety on young people and the need for innovative approaches that connect science, education, and technology to support mental health.
The project brings together researchers, psychologists, educators, and technology professionals in a collaborative effort to create evidence-based solutions with the potential to benefit thousands of students. In addition to the digital platform, interactive in-person activities encourage dialogue, reflection, and stronger connections within school communities.
More than a research initiative, Cabeça Legal represents a practical and scalable approach to improving mental health support in schools. By helping educators identify emotional vulnerabilities earlier and respond more effectively, the project contributes to safer, more supportive learning environments where students can thrive.
With the support of donors and partners, this initiative can continue expanding its reach, advancing research, and making innovative mental health tools available to more schools and young people across Brazil. Every contribution helps ensure that more adolescents are seen, supported, and empowered to build healthier and more hopeful futures.
