This project will protect the Bamenda Highlands Montane forest converting 200 charcoal producers to honey producers. The forest is rich in non timber product and the people depend on it for food, culture and medicine. Charcoal production is done for income and this destroy trees good for bees and honey production. We will train charcoal producers on beekeeping, entrepreneurship and support them with 200 beehives as startups. This project will save trees, sequestrate carbon and create green jobs
The Bamenda Highland Montane forest is suffering from charcoal production that destroys biodiversity and the bee population. This people are poor, unemployed and their forest which is their livelihood is gradually disappearing. There is a huge potential to produce honey if the forest is conserved. Charcoal production is very expensive , time consuming and not good for biodiversity. Community lack skills in honey production that earn more income and is eco-friendly
This project will convert 200 charcoal producers to honey producers to help protect the Bamenda Highlands Montane forest . The 200 charcoal producers will trained on honey production and supported with 200 beehives.The trained bee farmers will receive coaching and mentoring services to promote learning and sharing among themselves. They will be organized to groups and receive entrepreneurship and marketing skills. They will plant 1000 bee loving trees around their apiary
This project will transform 200 charcoal producers to beekeepers for honey production for sale and generate sustainable income, create more sustainable green jobs, increase income. Ecosystem health will be restored and protected. There will be increase in honey production. Charcoal production will reduce significantly.
