Her Education, Her Future: Keeping Girls in School
Project Report | October 2026

Every Girl Deserves the Chance to Learn
In underserved communities across Pakistan, a girl's education can be interrupted not by a lack of ambition, but by poverty, household responsibilities, and social expectations.
According to UNICEF Pakistan, approximately 25.1 million children aged 5–16 remain out of school, including 9.7 million in Punjab alone. For girls from disadvantaged households, barriers to education are particularly severe.
The World Bank's 2024 analysis of girls' education in Pakistan found that girls from poor households were 52 percentage points less likely to attend school than girls from wealthier families. Financial hardship, distance, and social constraints continue to determine whose education is prioritized.
Why Keeping Girls in School Matters
The benefits of girls' education extend well beyond academic achievement.
A 2023 peer-reviewed study published in World Development examined a financial assistance programme for girls' secondary education in Punjab. Researchers found that greater exposure to educational support increased secondary school completion and reduced the likelihood of early marriage and childbirth.
The study also identified benefits for the next generation, including improved child health outcomes among women who had received greater educational support.
Our Commitment: From Enrollment to Empowerment
Since 1985, Fatima Memorial Hospital's community outreach schools have worked to expand educational opportunities in underserved peri-urban communities of Lahore.
Our latest published project figures report 1,850 enrolled students, with girls representing 35% of enrollment. Our goal remains to increase female participation towards 50% while helping enrolled girls complete their education.
Through Continuing Malala's Dream, we support girls with educational expenses, uniforms, books, stationery, retention assistance, and engagement with parents to encourage consistent attendance.
Our focus is not simply bringing girls into classrooms, but helping them remain there.
