Liberia suffered the worst outbreak of Ebola in recorded history. Accurate information is one of the primary ways to slow and ultimately stop the spread of this horrible disease. Donate now and help us continue to support grassroots organizations to mobilize, educate and bring accurate information into their communities to prevent the further spread of the Ebola Virus. Local communities have been the first responders so let's continue to help them keep their communities safe by supporting them!
The West African Ebola outbreak was the worst in recorded history. Liberia's government was slow to contain the outbreak, enforce health precautions, inform communities and provide resources to contain the spread. Thus, the EVD rapidly spread to over half of the country and many many people died as a result of this. People, driven by misinformation and fear, continued to take unnecessary risks jeopardizing containment efforts. Non-complacency is now key to everyone's survival.
Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa (GPFA) provides training to community-based organizations accurate information, materials and rapid mini grants to promote education and disease prevention. Additional training and grants go to rural media outlets to increase awareness and prevention messages to dispel misinformation. Support to continue an outreach and awareness of staying compliant will help keep us safe and aware of the dangers of letting our guard down at a risk of another huge outbreak.
Efforts to empower local community groups to allocate resources and services where it is most needed will allow the most efficient dissemination of information to prevent further spread of the virus. GPFA's efforts strengthens community groups role in rapid-response emergencies and increases coordination with government efforts, aiding to ease fears and misinformation. A continuation of grassroots engagement within the communities, especially empowering female led efforts, will go a long way.
