Challenge

The school is currently situated at a rented 2 storey building which has inadequate infrastructure for the visually impaired. It's an old building where the safety and security of the girls can be hampered. In addition, given the ever increasing number of applicants each year and considering the fact that the present facility lacks the space to accommodate more girls with seeing disability, HKDW Society needs a permanent and spacious building to be constructed for the school.

Solution

As SARSBG is the only school for blind girls in the entire Gulbarga division, HKDW Society plans to reach out to more girls with blindness from the 5 neighboring districts comprising Bidar, Bellary, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir. The new building will enable us to provide better facilities including spacious classrooms, library, computer training center, laboratories, playground, modular kitchen, dining hall, etc. In addition, the rent amount ($4070 per year) can be utilized for other amenities.

Long-Term Impact

On completion, the building will accommodate more than 100 visually impaired girls enabling them to receive primary, secondary and higher education along with vocational training, computer training, music courses, yoga, etc at any given point in time. Hence, accomplish our overall goal to enhance access to quality education and holistic development opportunities for blind girls and enable their potential for effective participation in the socio-economic process.
