ADMISSIONS PROCESS – FROM THE ADMISSION AND SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEWS TO THE ARRIVAL AND ORIENTATION OF FRESHMEN
To be able to recruit students, Palm staff and faculty met continuously to devise strategies, provide updates on individual and group outreaches and recommend solutions to admissions challenges. With the aim of providing scholarships to brilliant but financially disadvantaged under the Naa Amerley Palm Education (NAPE) Foundation and David Okai Okantey (DOO) Foundations, scholarship applicants were shortlisted and interviewed by the admissions and scholarship panel.
The interviews gave officers of Palm Institute the opportunity to meet the applicants in-person or virtually and to interact with them to determine their level of need and the authenticity of their request for support. Finally, the freshmen were welcomed into the Palm community on Monday, 26th September, 2022. Coming from both the northern and southern parts of the country but unified with one goal – hope for a better future, the students arrived on campus. The orientation program was aimed at “knowing-your-university.”
During the 3-day period, students were oriented on the Palm story, departments, facilities, resources, career, academic and counselling services, rules, regulations and policies, Financial Aid & Scholarship, academic expectations, future programs, Palm Green Lab etc. The group also received addresses from the Board members of the NAPE Foundation, DOO Foundation and the Oklahoma State University. The orientation also provided the platform for peer mentors to meet their peer mentees for the face time. It was a beautiful moment seeing the eagerness of the peer mentors to guide the freshmen in transitioning and adjusting to campus life.
RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
To the glory of God The maiden on-campus residential facility, Phil and Vickie Rothrock hall was dedicated on 17th September 2022. Two summer huts for relaxation and study group meetings were also commissioned alongside a sports complex made up of a football pitch, volleyball court and a basketball court at Palm Institute. Management, staff and faculty members and students were present at the ceremony alongside other invited guests such as the Okantey family and representatives from the David Okai Okantey (DOO) Foundation. The invited guests and all others present inspected the facilities and took pictures after a brief message from the Founder and President of Palm Institute and a dedication session led by a Pastor from the International Palace Chapel. Thanks to all our donors for their contributions towards the success and development of Palm Institute.
INTERNSHIP TESTIMONIAL
Palm Institute students are encouraged to take advantage of their summer holiday through job-shadowing, engaging in an internship or other employment activities. A sophomore, who just completed his internship at Palm Institute shares his experience below. My internship at Palm Institute under the Center for Ethical Leadership between June 1st and September 30th, 2022 provided me with valuable hands-on experience and a better idea of what knowledge, areas and skills I need to prioritize and make further improvement towards pursing further studies. My internship included many of the responsibilities necessary to run a business. Each day brought different circumstances, and I had the opportunity to make decisions on my own and learn from both my successes and failures.
Other things that I valued most about my internship at Palm Institute include, but are not limited to, the nice and supportive working environment and the staff commitment to providing excellent service to the institution. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn and get a better understanding of the Palm Institution. To conclude, my internship at Palm Institute was a worthwhile experience, and I will apply all that I learnt both the positive and negative aspects of the internship with me in applying for and analyzing future opportunities. End of Semester Examination The BSc Business Information Technology Freshmen (weekend cohort) successfully wrote their end of semester examination for their preparation towards transitioning into the sophomore year.
