World Changing Centre Charity actively sponsors a network of children’s reading book clubs run in schools in Sierra Leone to encourage reading for pleasure.

The World Changing Centre has been improving the quality of life for underprivileged children aged between 5-25 years who live in Eastern of Freetown in Sierra Leone. The dedication of our volunteers helps enable children to realise their talents and potential for success.  Education focuses on core subjects and vocational skills through apprenticeships and mentoring programmes.  This helps them to gain employment when they graduate and also helps them to become a vibrant part of the self-reliant community.  Our drama and arts therapy programmes support children in overcoming war-invoked trauma and basic health and sanitation. WCC combast the frwoing child mortality rate and promotes vital HIV/AIDS prevention through playing activities and fun games.

WCC willl  continue to raise funds for a  permanent residence that is required to sustain a foundational and positive environment for the development of our students. The need to secure the future of the school for the benefit of the community is vital. Losing funds on paying rent does not provide investment opportunities to develop the school properly, and this is the reason for seeking a permanent residence. We intend to expand to an additional 100 students, and the growth of the physical site is of the upmost importance.

This project is geared towards meeting the urgent educational need in Sierra Leone. WCC believe that the learning experience of the children will necessitate the provision of the complete health infrastructure. We aim to improve the quality of life of the children and young people of Sierra Leone by providing various educational opportunities to advance their economic prospects.

The project is going to intervene with the following activities:
Construction of the WCC Academy Building
Construct a new school buildingwhich contains classrooms, a kitchen, toilet and bathrooms facilities using locally sourced sand, cement and workers

Provide primary education to 1,000 orphans and homeless children aged 5-25 years old

Equip the school with educational resources such as books and stationary as well as tables, chairs and a blackboard to aid effective learning etc

Build an adjacent healthcare centerwhich is easily accessible to each of the community’s 20,500 inhabitants. This will be funded through future endeavors and contributors

To offer extracurricular activities such as sporting activities and field trips.

World Changing Centre is currently sponsoring a network of children’s reading book clubs run in schools in Sierra Leone to encourage reading for pleasure. WCC book clubs are run by teachers, and volunteers – people who are passionate about reading and impacting children’s lives in the Community. We also work with targeted groups, to engage and sustain reading recovery, with talented children to support a transition from Nursery school to Primary school.Reading for pleasure is more important to children’s successes than education or social class. WCC Book Clubs helps gets a high number of children/young people in Sierra Leone into books to keep up their reading skills and confidence during the long holidays and breaks. Childrens’ reading groups help build and sustain a lifelong reading habit. Everything changes when we read."You, the donor, made this happen! and thanks for being part of our possibilities.

A decade of civil war, EBOLA, and mudslides destroyed much of Sierra Leone's infrastructure and education system. In 2014, at the request of community leaders, WCC hired out space in a community hall and employed several local volunteer graduates as teachers. WCC began to offer Primary and Secondary school education to 50 forgotten and abandoned local children who were orphaned and left destitute.

As an organization, WCC supports research on child poverty and education in Africa. Intuitively, the main means of escaping poverty is education, taken in its broadest sense (formal and informal schooling, skills training and knowledge acquisition). WCC aims to give the children and young people in Sierra Leone a health service fit for the 21st century. This exists partly as an advisory service with plans to improve the capability in the near future.

WCC academy seeks to increase enrolments in primary schools and reduce in the number of school drop outs to improve educational attainment in core subjects. WCC spreads greater awareness of disease prevention and control to reduce mortality rates of disadvantaged people in Sierra Leone. Our goals include: -

  • Improved access to education and health care services, increasing disadvantaged people's opportunities and future prospects.
  •  Improved sustainable access to safe water and sanitation to reduce illness.

The implementation of the Life Safe, Play Safe module, with HIV/AIDS prevention focuses in Coach and Community Sensitization. This will include Community sensitization, health education, and adult education programs on disease prevention. The use of sports and other activities will enhance healthy child development, foster individual talents and strengthen community partnerships. It will also help to empower and mobilize communities. You can make a difference in the lives of these marginalized children by donating to the cause.
