The Shai Doron Education Center for Nature Conservation at the Jerusalem Zoo will be a powerful symbol of the Zoo's values of wildlife conservation and biodiversity and an icon in everything related to nature conservation. The Center will be an opportunity to present the overall picture of the Zoo's noteworthy contribution to wildlife conservation both in Israel and around the world.
Just as the Biblical Noah's ark saved animals from extinction in the first ecological disaster, zoos are an important vehicle in the mission to save endangered animals and their habitats. The Center, which will serve as a hub for education and nature conservation, will honor the memory of the Zoo's founding Director-General, the late Shai Doron.
The Center will focus on the importance of biodiversity to foster public awareness and engagement in the preservation of endangered species and their habitats. It will also function as an educational platform to inspire conservation action and provide a space for hosting groups from all of Israel's diverse communities to learn about nature and endangered animals.
The Center will lead to the increased awareness of native Israeli conservation programs and the importance of the Zoo's contribution to regional and international conservation programs. This dedicated center will lead the way in educating a new generation about the importance of conservation, habitat preservation and ensuring that future generations will be able to know species that are today under risk of extinction.
