REPORT TITLE: PEACOCK CONSERVATION AT UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
PROJECT TITLE: CONSERVATION OF NATIONAL BIRD, INDIA
At Mano College, Nagampatti Ottapidaram Block Thoothukudi District which works under the guidance of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. Indian National Bird Peacock Awareness Training Programme was held. This Awareness Training Programme was held in the presence of Principal, Mano College Nagampatti presided over this Training Programme. Project Manager, Global Giving Aided Chevalier Roche Society Project participated in this programme and provided the Peacock Conservation Training Programme. During this Training Programme following information were provided by him.
It was explained that both Animals and Birds also have the liberty like human community. Global Warning, Climate Changes, Natural Disorders, Natural Calamities etc., Multitudes of rare birds & rare animals are being destroyed. In order to project these animals and birds every one of us most shares our responsibility to conserve these animals and birds. It was emphasized clearly during this Training Programme. It was asked to work effectively with earnestly to protect the peacock. It is our earnest desire and must work effectively. Peacock is not only the National bird of our country but also this is a prohibited bird. According to the Indian Forest Conservation Acts hunting or killing or hunting the same is a punishable crime. It was explained in detail. According to Indian Forest Act of the year 1972 hunting or killing the National Bird Peacock is liable to the punishment of 5 years imprisonment and the penalty of Rs. 50,000/-. At Vilathikulam Panchayat union areas of Ottappidaram Block, Thoothukudi district Peacocks are dead in major level. It was also discussed what is the reasons for this. At first it was explained what are the reasons for the death peacock in details. For the meat, peacocks in hunted and killed. Among the people there is a superstition that peacock oil is a good medicine for the leg pain and knee pain. That is why peacock are killed more in number. Peacocks are hunted and killed for collecting the peacock feathers. Due to the scarcity of water and food in forest areas peacocks move from the village and came the village areas. During this occasion they meet accidents by the vehicle drivers. Sometimes peacocks touch the electric wires when they come into the villages and they meet death because of the electric shock. In the agricultural fields in order to project the crops farmers keep rat person here and there in their fields. By eating these poison peacocks meet sudden death. By eating the poison mixed maize grains and some edibles such as yam, colocasia etc. Peacocks meet death. Due to the scarcity of food and water and draught naturally peacock species are decreasing. Not only the peacock and many rare species are destroyed in this world particularly in our surrounding areas. In this situation we must have enough care about the Nature and Natural Resources, all types of animals and birds. We must develop our social Awareness and have the special concern about the forest lives and especially to protect the rare lives such as peacocks, elephants etc.
IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE PEACOCK SPECIES FOLLOWING GUIDELINES WERE OFFERED DURING THE PEACOCK CONSERVATION AWARENESS TRAINING PROGRAMME:
Boy and Girl Students were suggested to convene the continuous Conservation Awareness Programmes among the common people and farmers. It was asked to encourage the farmers utilize the Natural pesticides such as panchakaviya in their agricultural fields. Students participated in the programme were encouraged to prepare the farmers to avoid the usage of powerful seeds and artificial fertilizers and to use the natural seeds and Natural fertility’s in their agricultural fields. It was also emphasized to make arrangements to avoid the incoming of peacocks into the domestic areas and we must arrange the food and water a peacock living locations. Students were asked to emphasize the point that the hunters and killers of peacock are prohibited kill the bird peacock and it is a punishable crime. It was explained in detail to the students with necessary details referring to the forest acts etc.Boys and girl students were encouraged convene the peacock Awareness Training Programme to protect the peacocks to inform the agricultural land owners to chase the peacocks from their agricultural lands when they come for food. The land owner’s people can make the voice and by clapping their hands they can drive away the peacocks from their areas. The Students were asked to form Indian National Bird Peacock Conservation and Supervision Committee. Being united with the Forest Department National Service Scheme students and NCC Students were emphasized to conserve the peacock species. Finally this Peacock Conservation Awareness Training Programme was accomplished after College Professor delivered the Vote of Thanks.
