REPORT TITLE: PEACOCK CONSERVATION AWARENESS PROGRAMME
PROJECT TITLE: CONSERVATION OF NATIONAL BIRD, INDIA
Peacock Conservation Awareness programme was held at Punitha Anthoniyar High School, Siluvaippatti Village at Mappillayurani Panchayat of Ottappidaram Block of Thoothukudi District. In this programme Co-ordinator, Global Giving aided project by Chevalier Roche Society delivered leature. He mentioned the following points. “Being left the forest area Peacocks have begun to enter into the village and Town areas. Because there is no proper situation in the forest for their living. As in our areas here is no enough rainfall they are unable to get their food and water. Due to this dry condition peacocks displace from the forest areas and move to the domestic areas. In agricultural areas before planting the seeds farmers mixes a chemical with their seeds (in order to protect their seeds from ants and insects) as 4 methods of protection. As the peacocks eat these seeds because of their hungry, they die. Some people hunt the peacock for their meat some hunt the peacock for their beautiful feathers. These are the punishable crones according to the forest Act. These persons will be imprisoned for a period of 7 years, and they have to pay a penalty of Rs. 10,000/- also. Everybody must know this. Peacock shall not be hunted. We may help the peacock as for as possible. If peacocks come to our village or town area we can provide them water in a small vessel for their drinking purpose. We can supply the food materials in our home for the peacocks and we may protect them. We shall not destroy the tress. We can provide enough space in the trees for the peacocks to stay. We must not chase the peacock.” Boys and Girls students of the school took oath for conserving and Awareness about Indian National Bird. Following the oath taken Headmistress, Punitha Anthoniyar High School, Siluvaippatti spoke: Not only the peacocks but also all the forest animals must be protected by us. If somebody kills the peacock it is punishable crime of 7 years imprisonment and a penalty of Rs. 10,000/- Now only this is known by our boy & girl students. Hence they must inform this to their friends and relatives also and protect the peacock species. Physical Director of the school delivered the vote of thanks to the organization Chevalier Roche Society for conducting the programme successfully and the kind co-operation rendered by all the participants of this awareness programme.
