Establish agricultural training center in Cameroon

In line with Green Care’s efforts to promote sustainable agricultural practices, Green Care Association (GCA) recently started to train all its staff members in Oyster mushroom cultivation. We are planning to improve in seed production and also the farming of the Agaricus species of mushroom in the near future. By teaching community members mushroom cultivation, this endeavor is going to give subsistence farmers and impoverished households an additional source of income, which can cover costs such as school fees and medical bills. Additionally, consumption of mushrooms will increase the protein intake of community members alongside the many medicinal benefits that go with the consumption of mushroom.

Since GCA has started this project, many community dwellers are already buying mushrooms cultivated by GCA, and some have asked to be trained in mushroom farming. The material and equipment for the first training was sponsored with funds from Global Giving. GCA now has the challenge to construct a big farm mushroom farm to meet demand for mushrooms, mushroom seeds, and mushroom cultivation workshops. Following the success of the first workshops sponsored in part by GlobalGiving donations, we have a new found determination to expand the mushroom production project, if we can continue to find support in the GlobalGiving community.
