Update from COLOMBIA

For English readers (Spanish below): After six months and three trips to the field, we are happy to report that we completed our first inventory of a very special highland ecosystem in the Serrania de San Lucas, a global priority area for conservation. We identified jaguars, pumas, spectacled bears, tapirs, giant anteaters, ocelots, blue-billed curassows, among others. This assemblage of species is very good news because it indicates the presence of a highly-intact forest (for now). The next steps are to create preliminary management plans and identify ways - working with local and international partners -  to get a 6,000 acre portion of the area protected. Timing is urgent because the San Lucas mountains are at risk from a series of expanding threats. We look forward to sharing further reports in the not-too-distant future!
