The task of digitizing all the books is new. The old library on campus was very "old". The library staff will continue to transition from no system at all to a partially electronic system as they add books. It is symbolic of the transition of the old library to a modern facility.
Step by step, the librarians have tested software and begun implementation of so many cherished activities. Access and Excel are here to create databases. The librarians are able to input data into tables and engage in digital cataloguing. They have screened software being used in schools to find the perfect fit for Bishop Comboni. CodeAchi is good and they will consider LMS (Library Management Software) when they need more advanced software.
More books will be purchased in February as school reopens for the 2020 academic year. Generous donors have provided a Christmas gift to the school. Next, they hope to acquire more computers. And more books.......
There is no doubt that the needs will never end. This facility is the first of its kind in the District. Reliable internet coupled with books for research, in a lovely space for study, is heaven. It will be utilized by students, the community and the hospital next door for years to come.
Thank you to all who have contributed, and to those who will find an occasion to do so in 2020. Education is about expanding minds; how better to help than to provide the tools to allow it happen!
