Access to education in Cartagena, COLOMBIA is in a critical state as the COVID outbreak has fully pushed the education system to virtuality and most of the kids that attend the 431 public schools don't have the proper equipment to access internet. We need to get as many laptops and tablets as possible to fill these needs. We will provide 6 and 7yo with tablets and 8-18yo with laptops. Our initial goal are the children of the communities we serve in FEM, and any extras to the public school system
Limited access to laptops and tablets is the main obstacle during the COVID19 outbreak for kids in Cartagena to access their human right to education. FEM has worked with indigenous and vulnerable families for the past 10 years, and we have a list of almost 200 children between the ages of 5 and 18 that belong to our extended community. Providing them with laptops or tablets can be a game changer as they will be able to attend virtual classes and do homework consistently.
Children use their parents' cellphones to attend class and download assignments. This hinders younger siblings' education and parent's availability for work calls. By creating this crowdfund we will provide each family with at least one laptop and siblings with tablets (minimum requirements: IntelCore3, 8GB RAM, and Office License). Providing children with enough tech to access their virtual classes and do homework during the extended quarantine will 1. keep girls in school longer 2. allow children to stay on track for the 2021 school year 3. enable parents to use their cell phones for income related activities 4. stop hindering education of younger siblings 5. overall achieve improved access to education.
