Dear donors,
Warm greetings!
We at IDEA realize the significance of computer literacy in the education of today’s youth. The simple skill of handling a computer adds much weight to an individual’s qualifications and opens up a sea of educational and professional opportunities. Moreover, it lends them the confidence to compete with the global tech-savvy youth, which maneuvers through its activities on computer keys.
To further its constant effort to bring valuable opportunities to the under privileged youth, IDEA initiated the Computer Literacy Class. Those girls who had the inclination to study computer operation but did not possess the means to do so are selected for the program. In order to help them fulfill their aspirations, basic computer training was offered to them. Also taking note of their necessity of fluent English in their professional sphere IDEA arranged for their training in English language skills. IDEA is confident that command over one’s language will enhance their personality in addition to enabling them to interact without hesitation with diverse population.
The girls falling under the ambit of this program receive financial help from IDEA in paying a part of their fees for the MS-CIT classes. Although most schools now employ computer training in their syllabus, the course is infested with deficient infrastructure, inadequate time and lack of qualified teachers. The MS-CIT classes provide the students with comprehensive training in the field with ample practice. Since the teachers adopt the one on one approach to teaching, the student grasps the concept thoroughly and quickly.
The impact of the initiative can be illustrated with the following case study of one of the 5 girls who are undergoing this training.
Manisha:
16 year old Manisha confidently taps at the keys of the computer. Her elder sister peers at the screen, trying to make sense of the form she's filling in for her admission to Std. XI. Manisha would have shared her confusion a few months ago, when she began attending the MSCIT classes for computer literacy with the help of the IDEA Foundation.
"Although we are taught computers in school, it was very superficial. Being computer illiterate, I knew I would face problems in future, especially so since I plan on appearing for civil services competitive exams, for which the knowledge of computers is of great significance. I had looked for computer training in different centers earlier, but their fees were extremely high. Then I learnt of IDEA offering help for this course.", says Manisha.
Manisha's father is a driver and earns a meager income which is barely sufficient for himself. Her mother works as a tailor and her income pays for their domestic expenses. Manisha and her elder sister's expenses are taken care of by her eldest sister, who works at a showroom along with her college. Hence, Manisha has to think twice before spending money even on education.
Manisha had been told about IDEA by an old school teacher. She has participated in numerous activities here, namely the Spoken English tuitions, Yoga and Martial Arts training, Sponsorship programme and the Summer Camp. Here, she learnt that IDEA planned on sponsoring 5 girls for the MSCIT classes. She knew she had to enroll. Although she knew her sister would face trouble paying such a large amount at once, they managed by cutting corners in other expenses.
Today, Manisha uses the computer with ease. She appreciates the in depth knowledge and personal attention given at the MSCIT classes. She does not sense the absence of a computer at home as she receives ample practice in the classes itself. She is confident that the skills she learns here will enable her to crack the Public Service exams and establish a comfortable life for her family and herself.
Thank you donors for enabling us to reach out to these children and brighten up their skills. We deeply appreciate your continued support for booting their future.
