Greetings from IDEA Foundation!
Mamta is a 56-year-old woman participant of NDLM course who lives in a slum in Pune . Mamta’s native is a village called Shirur which is 68 km away from Pune city. Her husband served in Defense services. He passed away 15 years back. She had to shoulder all the responsibility of the family and her 2 children after her husband’s death. Mamta’s daughter always stood up as a strong support. Mamta says that though she did not have many struggles in life, she had a feeling of emptiness after her daughter’s marriage.
In the meantime, she came to know about the digital literacy class through one of her neighbors. Her daughter motivated her and she took admission in IDEA NDLM course.
At the NDLM center run by UMANG project she met the center instructor and was informed about various courses run for women for their economic and social empowerment. She explains that initially, she was not confident about taking up a computer course at this age. She was wondering how could she understand computers.
The instructor explained to her the content of the course & explained to her why being digitally literate is essential nowadays. Mamta took admission in the course. She explains how patiently the instructor taught her during the class and her queries were never unanswered.
Mamta says “whatever I have learned in the course was very informative and useful. I never thought there could be such a course where people of my age would get a chance to learn computer and walk with the pace of new era. I am able to use various options on my cell phone in addition to sending or reading messages.
My granddaughter who sometimes accompanied me to the class feels proud of me. I have understood that there is no age limit for learning & education. I am thankful to IDEA Foundation and to my teacher for giving this opportunity to me as well as other women like me.
