Providing computer literacy courses and cultural education to offer opportunities to socially reintegrate low-income residents in Parada de Lucas Slum. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The goal of Afro Reggae is to have a direct intervention close to Afro Brazilian population and offer a cultural and artistic education that reinforces positive interests, in an effort to help young favela (urban slum) residents escape from the drug traffic or under-employment. Parada de Lucas is a very poor community with 19.000 habitants. It lacks schools, heath centers, and cultural activities. The goal is to restore the Afro Reggae Cultural Center inside the community to attend more people
The restoration of the Cultural Center will make possible to offer more computer courses, and workshops in theater, dance, percussion and also social support to the families. This will allow more people to get jobs and raise the family income.
The goal is to help kids, youth, adults and elders that live in community to overcome the obstacles of poverty. We will recover and implement new classrooms in an existing and very successful Cultural Center.
