Empowering Teenage Mothers: Q3 2026

By Luisa Paez | Project Leader

1. Program Overview & Core Services

Between July and September 2026, the program provided comprehensive support to seventeen (17) pregnant teenagers. Core services delivered during this quarter included:

  • Medical & Nutritional Support: Provision of prenatal medical care, nutritional assistance, essential medicines, and vitamins.
  • Material Aid: Distribution of milk/formula and clothing for the newborns.
  • Psychosocial Guidance: Counseling designed to protect, empower, and support the well-being of both the young mothers and their babies.

2. Participant Demographics

  • Age Profile: The participants' ages range from 15 to 19 years, with an average age of 16.4.
  • Educational Background: Currently, three (3) girls are in the 5th grade, eight (8) are in the 6th grade, and three (3) have successfully completed high school.

3. Health & Medical Status

  • Deliveries: To date, six (6) of the young mothers have safely delivered their babies in public hospitals. All newborns are currently in good health.
  • Delivery Preparation: As due dates approach, mothers are referred to local hospitals with a comprehensive medical report to facilitate seamless care during childbirth.
  • Nutritional Concerns: A majority of the girls exhibit signs of malnutrition linked to severe socio-economic hardship. This issue is particularly critical among the seven (7) teenagers who come from rural areas.

4. Educational & Vocational Training

The program actively fosters long-term independence and personal growth through targeted education:

  • Life Skills: Participants receive ongoing instruction in pregnancy and childbirth care, newborn care, self-esteem building, and family orientation.
  • Vocational Empowerment: To optimize their living conditions and encourage financial independence, the young mothers participate in vocational and entrepreneurial training. Current skills training includes pastry making, manicuring, and hairdressing, equipping them with the tools needed to secure a sustainable livelihood.

5. Conclusion & Outlook

Despite the severe challenges these teenage mothers face, we have observed significant progress in their personal development. They demonstrate a strong desire for self-improvement, a deep sense of responsibility and attachment to their babies, and a commitment to building viable life plans. Continued and considerable support remains essential to help them move forward and prevent the recurrence of high-risk situations.
