‘Prevention is better than cure’ - More than being just simple proverbs, there are times when we realize the importance of these simple one-liners. Young children need a healthy start. Physical health is a key factor in young children’s proper growth and readiness for their daily routine and their school activities.
The main component of ‘Muktashala’ is providing children with holistic development.
On 26th July, a medical health screening camp was conducted for the children and their parents at Muktashala as they belong to the ‘Katkari Tribe’, a primitive tribe in India. They travel extensively in search of work neglecting their health concerns.
Of all the beneficiaries screened, 25 children and 15 parents were diagnosed with medical issues like cough, cold, fever and skin diseases. The children’s height and weight were also monitored for their growth and development. Immediate treatment and medications were provided for diagnosed illnesses.
During the Health camp, the medical team sensitized the beneficiaries about skin diseases like scabies. The beneficiaries were also addressed on the importance of exercise, healthy habits and hygiene practices as it acts as an effective mechanism against most illnesses resulting in a long, healthy and happy life. The effects of tobacco, alcohol, smoking of ‘bidi’ and other harmful substances were also highlighted.
Monitoring of the medical follow-ups for the children and parents was later conducted ensuring proper completion of the treatment. This Health Camp helped in the early treatment of skin diseases and also the promotion of the importance of health among this community.
All beneficiaries were informed that the next medical health screening camp will be organized on January 2020. The parents were grateful to Muktashala and its well-wishers, for organizing such medical camps as it helps their children and them, in receiving timely medical aid.
